A Near Death Experience...
One day, a new shipment of cocaine arrived, and I purchased a large quantity of it. Part of the process of creating a demand for it required me to make sure people had an opportunity to sample it and appreciate what the quality was. I thought this batch was very good, and I had a "party" with a number of friends present. Since all of my friends were also customers, we did a fairly large amount together over the course of a few hours, as that was the way it worked for me. By midnight, I thought it had a "funny" smell to it, and I started to get a headache..and became very dizzy. I felt pretty bad, but nobody else there was having any problem with the stuff...so I just stopped doing it and let the party go on..but I was feeling increasingly disoriented, and by 3:00 AM, I felt really strange. I started to vomit about twenty minutes later, and really didn't stop vomiting for a few hours. Anytime I drank or ate anything, I'd begin vomiting again. By dawn, I was very weak. By 9:00 AM, I couldn't lift my head off the floor. I asked Don to take me to the hospital. I hated hospitals, and I hated doctors, but something was definetely wrong. When I got there, the ER staff tried to send me home, saying I'd be better in a day or two. I explained that if I was sick enough to even be there, it was way more serious than that, and I demanded to be admitted. They said no, but agreed to take a few tests. Two hours later, the ER doctor came in and told me I was being admitted, and that I was a very sick boy. My temperature was 106. I was losing conciousness. They determined I had Hepatitis. My temperature didn't change for three days. I was hospitalized for 10 days, fed through tubes. And I had "caught" it from sharing dirty needles...three months earlier. I must have set a record for vomiting. I hope I never feel that sick again..but Hepatitis is a life-long consequence, and it has proven to be persistent...
